Frank Lees Centre for Loss Prevention Loughborough University

Professor Frank Lees worked in the Chemical Engineering Department at Loughborough University from 1967 until his death in 1999. Amongst his many achievements, he wrote the standard work, Loss Prevention in the Process Industries, was a key figure on the Advisory Committee on Major Hazards (ACMH) set up after the Flixborough explosion (1974) and he also served as an adviser to the Piper Alpha inquiry. Frank and his team in the Plant Engineering Research Group contributed enormously to the advancement of knowledge about hazard and risk assessment.

The aim of the Frank Lees Centre for Loss Prevention is to foster the World-class research in Safety and Loss Prevention that is pursued both within and between several departments at Loughborough University. This research collaboration seeks to integrate the approaches offered by different disciplines. Collaborating departments are Computer Science (the Graphics, Design and Intelligent Systems Research Group), Chemical Engineering (the Sustainable Process Development Group), Mathematical Sciences (the Risk and Reliability Assessment Group) and CHaRM (The Centre for Hazard and Risk Management).
